Recipe - Fried Cheerios (Classic Hot Buttered Cheerios)
4 cups Cheerios
1/4 cup butter (salted butter)
salt to taste
Directions
In a large skillet, melt-butter over medium to medium-high heat. Add Cheerios, coating well in butter, stir for approximately 3 to 4 minutes, until cheerios are nicely toasted and crispy. Remove, sprinkle with salt…enjoy! Quick tip, instead of salt, use seasoning salt (like Lawry’s Seasoning Salt) or add a little Worcestershire (1/2 teaspoon) to the butter for extra flavor.
Variations
Mini doughnut – Add ¼ teaspoon vanilla to the butter. Stir together 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon and toss Cheerios until coated.
Garlic Toast – Add 3 tablespoons fresh grated Parmesan cheese, ½ teaspoon garlic powder and 1/8 teaspoon salt to butter before adding Cheerios.
Apple Pie - Add 3 teaspoons maple syrup and 1 cup chopped apple to butter over low heat. Stir in ¾ teaspoon apple pie spice. Add Cheerios; cook and stir 2 to 3 minutes or until cereal is well coated and hot.
